The School Food Summit 2013 of the Hudson Valley

On February 15, The School Food Summit 2013 : Celebrating Our Children, Food and Future brought regional and national change makers in the food service industry together at Marbletown Elementary School in Stone Ridge to present a vision of the future for our school cafeterias. Organizations and guest speakers included Chefs Consortium, Cooking Matters, Queen’s Galley Kitchen, Hudson Valley Seed, CRREO, Ulster Corps, Hudson Valley AgriBusiness Development Corporation, Rondout Valley Growers Association, Glynwood, Farm to Table Co-Packers, Winter Sun, Slow Food Hudson Valley, Sound and Story, Fleischer’s Meats, Kelder’s Farm, Local CSA’s (Slow Roots Farm and Huguenot Street Farms), and the Brook Farm Project and Phillies Bridge educational farms.  Chef Ann Cooper, “The Renegade Lunch Lady” CIA graduate and national spokeswoman, was the keynote speaker for the “Local Food Goes to School” event.  Consortium chefs Ellie Markovitch and Nicci Cagan participated in the conference.  Ellie Marovitch documented the experience.
